A patriotic film with a you-have-to-believe journey of Rani Laxmibhai , the Rani of Jhansi who valiantly fought the East India Company with even the British General admitting that Rani Laxmibhai was “a man among’st mutineers” Kangana Ranaut the director and the actor in the main lead has shattered conventions both on screen and off it, has made the movie a one man(woman)show. With Kangana dominating every frame, whether it’s riding a horse with confidence, wielding the sword with grace and grit. or mouthing war cries like “Har Har Mahadev” instead of “how is your josh” Kangana leads from the front. Her ROYAL totally at ease walk and straight-look eyes speak volumes about not loosing her focus of her derring-do role of the Rani of Jhansi. With Kangana dominating every frame, the other characters are rendered sketchy and sometimes superfluous. Jishu Sengupta an Actor from Bengal is a husband by name only. The first half of the 150 minute film is slow at times, picks up in the second half. The British, like it happens always in Indian films, are reduced to laughable caricatures. To sum it all go watch the movie for our never say die Manikarnika aka Miss Ranaut. You will get your “Paisa wasool” moments. I must also add here that she will definitely win accolades & plenty of awards for this role yet again. Amitabh Bachchan is credited with a back over voice but what foxes me is why Sadhguru was thanked in the credits? Did she seek his blessings!!!
