In an interview with Sonia Bakshi, a Fitness Guru, and the founder of Dance to Fitness (DtF) spoke about how fitness impacts a women’s not just health but also her beauty.
Dance to fitness is a fitness studio which is for women and run by women. DtF has its reach to New Delhi, Ludhiana, NCR, Pune and Hyderabad. Soon expected to launch their centers in Chandigarh, Chennai, and in greater Noida.
Dance to fitness helps women heal and empower. After a chit chat with Sonia Bakshi, we got to know more about DtF and how it works to empower women.
Interviewer: ‘How this idea emerged to start Dance to fitness (DtF)? Please share your success story?’
Sonia Bakshi: I am a CFA but once my daughter was born 21 years back, I decided to quit my job to be able to spend as much time with her. That’s when I chose to start something that could be balanced with my personal life. Over time, the aim shifted to helping other women achieve their dreams and to empower them by focusing on themselves.
The brand Dance To Fitness was started 12 years back in Indrapuram. I have been taking classes for almost 2 decades now and once the results started showing up, the demand started increasing. That’s why the brand was started.
Interviewer: ‘What are the challenges you faced when you started DtF?’
Sonia Bakshi: DtF was started at a time when women did not consider their health and diet as a top priority. It took years of counselling to explain that a woman’s health and diet are also important.
It also took time to make them realize the value of taking out time for themselves and getting them out of the house to class.
Back pains and knee pains were considered a part and parcel of a woman s life.
It took a lot of time to change the mindset of women. The counseling sessions are still on but there is a 70% improvement now over the past 12 years .
Interviewer: ‘How many centers are there currently? We noticed, that franchisee is only open for women only? Is there anything for menz?’
Sonia Bakshi: DtF has 40 centers as of now. We are in Delhi, New Delhi, all over NCR Pune, Hyderabad and Ludhiana.
Next DtF studios are expected to come up in Chandigarh, Chennai and Greater Noida.
DtF is exclusively for women and run by women. We believe that only a woman can understand a woman s body, her health problems and her emotional problems. DtF is not just about losing weight, it’s about holistic healing of every woman.
Our men’s exclusive studio is DtF Knights at Indrapuram.
Interviewer: ‘What all workouts are included with dance and diet. Whats the impact time?
Sonia Bakshi: Our diets are connected with our workouts. Since our workout style keeps changing every month, so does the diet. We incorporate Aerobics, Pilates, Functional Training, Circuit Training, Kick box, Weight Training in our workouts. A lady weighing about 70 kgs can lose between 4 to 6 kgs in a month if she does not have any health issues, shows up for class daily and flows the diet to the T.
Interviewer: ‘With what kinds of problem do women come to DtF usually’?
Sonia Bakshi: Women join us with severe Back Pains, Sciatica, Knee Pains, Arthritis, Thyroid, High BP, Diabetes, PCOD, PCOS, Cervical Pains etc. Our workouts first revolve around rectifying the health problem and making the woman feel better. This takes about 2 to 3 months. The process of Weight loss keeps taking place simultaneously.
Interviewer: ‘What is the support you give to people if someone wants to open DTF?’
Sonia Bakshi: All our franchises are trained exclusively to understand a women’s anatomy and how to handle all health problems and how to help in holistic healing.
The workout schedules, diets, retaining clients, how to advertise and handle the business after launch, everything is taken care by us.
